WHEREAS, a vacancy exists in the office of Charleston County Coroner as a result of the resignation of Susan Chewning; and

WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of South Carolina is authorized to appoint a Coroner in the event of a vacancy pursuant to Sections 17-5-50 and 4-11-20 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, as amended; and

WHEREAS, M. Rae Howell Wooten, residing at 1041 River Road, James Island, South Carolina 29455, is a fit and proper person to serve as Charleston County Coroner.

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of this State, I hereby appoint M. Rae Howell Wooten as Coroner of Charleston County until the next general election for this office and until her successor shall qualify. This appointment shall be effective immediately.
