EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 97-01


WHEREAS, an aircraft accident occurred in Georgetown County, South Carolina, on the afternoon of December 7, 1996, resulting in two missing individuals from the Winyah Rescue Squad; and,

WHEREAS, normal rescue efforts had not produced results in locating these two individuals, thereby requiring additional assets; and

WHEREAS, the necessity to assist the County with this search mission required additional support from the South Carolina National Guard; and

WHEREAS, on December 12, 1996, the undersigned authorized the South Carolina National Guard to take appropriate action, which action was taken on December 13, 1996.

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the powers conferred upon me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of South Carolina,the undersigned confirms that he placed the South Carolina National Guard on state duty for a 24-hour period on December 13, 1996 and ordered the utilization of the South Carolina National Guard's personnel and equipment to assist in the search for said individuals.
