EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 97-02


WHEREAS, pursuant to Executive Order Number 96-28, issued on September 16, 1996, following Hurricane Fran, the undersigned directed the South Carolina Department of Public Safety to place a moratorium for sixty days on the vehicle gross weight of vehicles set forth in Section 56-5-4140; and

WHEREAS, Executive Order Number 96-28 stated that the sixty day time period could be extended if it is deemed that the effort to salvage timbers needs to continue; and

WHEREAS, the undersigned extended the provisions of Executive Order Number 96-28 until and including December 16, 1996 in Executive Order Number 96-35; and

WHEREAS, the undersigned has been informed that the effort to salvage timbers should continue until April 1, 1997 to coincide with a similar extension granted by the Governor of the State of North Carolina.

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me as Governor, pursuant to the Constitution and Statutes of the State of South Carolina, I hereby extend the provisions of Executive Order Number 96-28 until and including April 1, 1997.
