EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 97-03


WHEREAS, pursuant to Executive Order Number 96-28, issued on September 16, 1996, following Hurricane Fran, the undersigned directed the South Carolina Department of Public Safety to place a moratorium for sixty days on the vehicle gross weight of vehicles set forth in Section 56-5-4140; and

WHEREAS, Executive Order Number 96-28 stated that the sixty day time period could be extended if it is deemed that the effort to salvage timbers needs to continue; and

WHEREAS, the undersigned extended the provisions of Executive Order Number 96-28 until and including December 16, 1996 in Executive Order Number 96-35; and

WHEREAS, the undersigned extended the provisions of Executive Order Number 96-28 until and including April 1, 1997, in Executive Order Number 97-02 issued on January 1, 1997; and

WHEREAS, the undersigned intended that the effective date of Executive Order Number 97-02 be January 10, 1997.

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me as Governor, pursuant to the Constitution and Statutes of the State of South Carolina, I hereby declare that Executive Order Number 97-02 is clarified to confirm that the effective date of that Order was January 10, 1997.
