EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 97-24


WHEREAS, the maximum speed limit along Interstate Highway 85 between milepoint 68.8 and milepoint 77.4 in Spartanburg County is 55 miles per hour; and

WHEREAS, the South Carolina General Assembly passed a Concurrent Resolution in May, 1997, requesting the speed limit to be increased on that section of Interstate Highway 85 to 65 miles per hour; and

WHEREAS, it appears that the General Assembly's request is reasonable and will facilitate the flow of traffic along that section of Interstate Highway 85.

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of this State, the maximum speed along Interstate Highway 85 between milepoint 68.8 and milepoint 77.4 in Spartanburg County be and it hereby is increased to 65 miles per hour. The South Carolina Department of Transportation shall install appropriate markers or signs at places along this stretch of highway to inform motorists of this maximum speed limit. The Department of Transportation shall place appropriate markers or signs on this stretch of Interstate Highway 85 on or before July 15, 1997, and the increased speed limit shall be effective at 12:01 a.m. on July 16, 1997.
