View Amendment Current Amendment: 3259R006.GEC.DOCX to Bill 3259     Senator CAMPSEN proposed the following amendment (3259R006.GEC):
    Amend the bill, as and if amended, page 2, by striking line 20 and inserting:

/     accessible by a bridge designed for use by automobiles.
        (     )     A local governing body may, by ordinance, limit or prohibit the operation of golf carts on any secondary highway or street if the governing body determines that the prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.
        (     )     A local governing body may, by ordinance and subject to the items (1) through (4) in subsection (B), allow permitted golf carts to be operated on primary highways that connect secondary highways or streets if
            (a)     the primary highway consists of more than one lane in each direction;
            (b)     there is no other reasonably safe alternative route on secondary highways or streets;
            (c)     the portion of the primary highway over which the golf cart may be operated is no longer than one-half of a mile; and
            (d)     the posted speed limit on that portion of the primary highway is thirty five miles per hour or less.     /

    Amend the bill further, as and if amended, page 3, line 2 by adding an appropriately numbered new SECTION to read:

/     SECTION     3.     Section 56-2-100(E) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

    "(E)(1)     A county or municipality may limit or prohibit the operation of low speed vehicles on any street or highway if the governing body of the county or municipality determines that the prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.
        (2)     A county or municipality may, by ordinance, allow low speed vehicles to be operated on primary roads that connect secondary highways or streets if there is no other reasonably safe alternative route and the portion of the primary highway over which the low speed vehicle cart may be operated is no longer than one-half of a mile."     /     /
