A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-490 SO AS TO PROVIDE THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION MAY NOT ADOPT AND THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION MAY NOT IMPLEMENT THE PreviousCOMMON CORENext STANDARDS, AND TO PROVIDE ANY ACTIONS TAKEN TO ADOPT OR IMPLEMENT THESE STANDARDS IS VOID.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 5, Chapter 1, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-1-490.    The State Board of Education may not adopt and the State Department of Education may not implement the PreviousCommon CoreNext State Standards developed by the PreviousCommon CoreNext State Standards Initiative. Any actions taken to adopt or implement the PreviousCommon Core State Standards as of the effective date of this section are void ab initio."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
