AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 16-23-20, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF PISTOLS AND EXCEPTIONS, SO AS TO PERMIT RESERVE POLICE OFFICERS SERVING AS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO CARRY PISTOLS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Officers permitted to carry pistols

Section 1. Item (1) of Section 16-23-20 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 349 of 1980, is further amended to read:

"(1) Regular, salaried law enforcement officers of a municipality, county, of the State, uncompensated Governor's constables, law enforcement officers of the federal government or other states when they are carrying out official duties while in this State, deputy wildlife conservation officers within their territorial jurisdictions, and reserve police officers while serving and functioning as law enforcement officers as authorized by Act 481 of 1978."

Time effective

Section 2. This act shall take effect upon the approval by the Governor.
