A JOINT RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE FOR THE CLOSING OF A CERTAIN ROUTE IN CHARLESTON COUNTY TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC ON OCTOBER 26, 1986, TO ENABLE THE ELKS BRIDG-ATHON ROAD RACE TO BE CONDUCTED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Road closed

SECTION 1. From 7:00 a.m. on October 26, 1986, until the Elks Bridg-athon has been declared completed by the official in charge, the Department of Highways and Public Transportation shall close the following route so that those participating in the Bridg-athon may participate in safety:

Beginning at the U.S.S. Yorktown at Patriots Point, thence along Patriots Point Road to U. S. Highway 17, thence west along U. S. Highway 17 across the Cooper River Bridge to East Bay Street, thence south along East Bay Street to South Battery Street, thence west along South Battery Street to Church Street, thence north along Church Street to Broad Street, thence west along Broad Street to Lockwood Street, thence northwest along Lockwood Street to U. S. Highway 17, thence southwest along U. S. Highway 17 to S. C. Highway 171 (Folly Road), thence south along Folly Road to Harborview Road, thence southeast along Harborview Road to Fort Johnson Road; thence southwest along Fort Johnson Road to Folly Road, thence south along Folly Road to Folly Beach, thence east along Cooper Avenue to Eighth Street, thence south along Eighth Street to Ashley Avenue, thence southeast along Ashley Avenue to the finish line at Folly Beach County Park.

The Department of Highways and Public Transportation, the City of Charleston, the Town of Mount Pleasant, Charleston County, the Town of Folly Beach, and the organizers and sponsors of the run are immune from liability, except for gross negligence from incidents arising from participation in or association with the race.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
