AN ACT TO CREATE A REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION FOR MARION COUNTY AND TO ABOLISH THE OFFICE OF COMMISSIONERS OF ELECTION AND THE REGISTRATION BOARD OF MARION COUNTY AND DEVOLVE THEIR POWERS AND DUTIES UPON THE REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Registration and Elections Commission created

SECTION 1. There is created the Registration and Elections Commission for Marion County. There are seven members of the commission who must be appointed by a majority of the Marion County Legislative Delegation, including the resident Senators, who are appointed for terms of two years and until their successors are appointed and qualify. Vacancies on the commission may be filled by appointment in the manner of original appointment for the unexpired terms only. The members of the commission shall receive compensation as may be appropriated by the county council.

Office abolished

SECTION 2. The office of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board for Marion County are abolished. The powers and duties of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board are devolved upon the commission created in Section 1.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval of the Governor.
