A JOINT RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE THAT THE FILING PERIOD FOR THOSE WISHING TO OFFER IN A PRIMARY ELECTION FOR THE OFFICE OF COUNTY COUNCIL, WHERE THE REDISTRICTING PLAN FOR SUCH OFFICES WAS NOT PRECLEARED PURSUANT TO THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT UNTIL AFTER THE FILING PERIOD FOR THESE OFFICES HAD CLOSED, MUST OPEN AT NOON ON MONDAY, MAY 12, 1986, AND CLOSE AT 5:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, MAY 23, 1986, FOR THESE OFFICES ONLY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Filing periods

SECTION 1. For the year 1986 only, the filing period for those wishing to offer in a party primary election for the office of county council when the redistricting plan for such offices was not precleared pursuant to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, as amended, until after the filing period for these offices had closed in accordance with Section 7-13-40 of the 1976 Code, must open at noon on Monday, May 12, 1986, and close at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, May 23, 1986, for these offices only.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
