The House assembled at 10:00 A.M.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark as follows:
Almighty God, Who has watched over Your people from generation to generation, we thank You for the skills and accomplishments of those who have preceded us in this great Nation. Make us their worthy successors that in our times we may be what we ought to be. Keep us steadfast as a people who do justly, who love mercy and who walk humbly with our God. And as we take up every task, may we work in accord with Your teachings. Give us the courage to use our efforts to correct what is wrong and to uphold what is right. Grant us an abundance of courtesy, charity, sincerity and diligence in all our activities.
In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
