A BILL

TO AMEND CHAPTER 67 OF TITLE 59 BY ADDING SECTION 59-67-125, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE PARKING OF SCHOOL BUSES AFTER SCHOOL HOURS, SO AS TO RESTRICT THE PARKING OF SCHOOL BUSES ALONG PUBLIC HIGHWAYS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 67 of Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-67-125. No school bus operated in this State shall be parked within fifteen feet of any public highway, street, or road after school hours. School buses shall be parked in a safe manner so as to not obscure the vision of passing motorists within three hundred feet to the front or rear of the bus or otherwise pose a safety hazard to passing motorists. It shall be the responsibility of the Board of Trustees or the governing body of each school district to ensure that school buses are safely parked in accordance with the provisions of this section. Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not less than twenty-five dollars or more than fifty dollars."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
