A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE SPARTANBURG HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1991 DIVISION I, CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the Senate remember well the tremendous victory of the Spartanburg High School Vikings over a fine Sumter Gamecock team in December at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia to win the Division I, Class AAAA state championship; and

Whereas, the 28-16 win against Sumter capped a truly outstanding season for the Vikings who finished the season with a 14-1 won-loss record culminating in their first state championship; and

Whereas, under the able leadership of Coach Doc Davis, the gifted and talented athletes of the Spartanburg football team reached their highest potential during the 1991 season; and

Whereas, the accomplishments of the Vikings, both on and off the field, brought credit not only upon them and their school but upon the State of South Carolina as well, given the high national ranking and attention devoted to the team during the 1991 season; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this fine group of young men and their coaching staff for this truly outstanding accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby congratulate the Spartanburg High School football team for winning the 1991 Division I, Class AAAA state championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Davis and to the principal of Spartanburg High School.
