A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. MARY WOODS OF TAYLORS UPON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, Mrs. Mary Woods has been a principal for six years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Woods began her teaching career after graduation from Benedict College in 1966; and

Whereas, Mrs. Woods has been the principal of Taylors Elementary School since 1987; and

Whereas, during her tenure, the school has implemented a reading recovery program, an intervention program for first graders experiencing problems with reading; and

Whereas, the school has a state-of-the-art science lab which helped to raise the test scores of the fifth graders; and

Whereas, Mrs. Woods worked to acquire the IBM computers, facilitated the use of artists-in-residence positions for art and music, and has worked to increase participation in all facets of the school and community; and

Whereas, under Mrs. Woods' direction, the school has received numerous awards and honors; and

Whereas, Mrs. Woods has been active in the community and has personally received numerous awards and honors; and

Whereas, Mrs. Woods has been named South Carolina Principal of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Mrs. Mary Woods of Taylors upon being named South Carolina Principal of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Woods.
