TO AMEND SECTION 40-47-20, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO MEETINGS AND OFFICERS OF THE STATE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS, SO AS TO FURTHER PROVIDE FOR TERMS OF OFFICE, CONSECUTIVE SERVICE, AND LIMITATIONS ON SERVICE AS AN OFFICER OF THE BOARD.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 40-47-20 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 40-47-20. The State Board of Medical Examiners shall meet at least twice a year at such time and place as times and places determined by the board. The board shall hold elections for elect its officers each year who shall serve for one-year terms and until their successors are elected and qualify. A member may serve two consecutive terms in the same office but is not eligible to serve another term in that office for three years. The board may call additional meetings when necessary for the transaction of board business. The board shall adopt rules and regulations for its government, for the practice of medicine and for the practice of osteopathy, for judging the professional and ethical competence of physicians and surgeons including a code of medical ethics, and for the discipline of physicians and surgeons (medical and osteopathic). A majority of the board shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business."
SECTION 2. Current officers of the Board of Medical Examiners shall serve the remainder of this year's term and may be reelected in accordance with the amendment to Section 40-47-20 as contained in Section 1 of this act.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
