A HOUSE RESOLUTION

WELCOMING HOME FROM SAUDI ARABIA LIEUTENANT COLONEL CHARLES WESLEY PLUNKETT OF DARLINGTON COUNTY AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS EFFORTS TO SECURE A VICTORY FOR FREEDOM IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

Whereas, Charles Wesley Plunkett of Darlington County bravely answered his country's call to arms in defense of world order and freedom by participating in the Desert Shield and Desert Storm operations in Saudi Arabia; and

Whereas, he has dedicated his life in service to his country, serving full-time in the military for seven years, and then as a member of the South Carolina Air National Guard, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Plunkett is Squadron Operations Officer for our Air National Guard Unit, making him second in command and giving him the duty of overseeing the daily operations of the squadron; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Plunkett showed great valor and courage by leading the initial Desert Storm attack and flying in excess of forty combat missions over enemy territory during his service in Saudi Arabia; and

Whereas, his bravery, skill, and dedication to duty contributed mightily to the victory of the allied nations in the recent war and helped Kuwait regain its freedom and independence; and

Whereas, he is a man of courage and honor and his community is grateful for his efforts and thankful for his safe return; and

Whereas, he is to be honored by First Baptist Church of Hartsville with a special presentation reflecting upon his deeds and welcoming him home to South Carolina; and

Whereas, he is employed by Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville, South Carolina, and is married to Rebecca Edwards Plunkett, and they have two children, Anna Marie and Matthew Len, all of whom make great contributions as constructive members of the Hartsville community; and

Whereas, the members of this body are extremely proud of Lieutenant Colonel Plunkett, as are all South Carolinians, and feel that he is greatly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, welcomes home from Saudi Arabia Lieutenant Colonel Charles Wesley Plunkett of Darlington County and thanks him for his efforts to secure a victory for freedom in the Middle East.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant Colonel Plunkett.
