A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 40-11-140, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE, SO AS TO ALLOW CONTRACTORS TO POST A BOND OR OTHER SURETY INSTEAD OF MEETING NET WORTH REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME LICENSED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 40-11-140 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 40-11-140. If the result of the examination of any an applicant shall be is satisfactory to the board and the applicant meets the financial requirements of net worth, evidence of a surety bond, insurance policy, or other surety acceptable to the board, or a combination of them, the board shall issue to the applicant a license to engage in business as a general or mechanical contractor in the State. Anyone failing A person who fails to pass such the examination may be given the opportunity to be reexamined once at any a regular meeting of the board or any a regularly scheduled examination without payment of any an additional fee. The results and a copy of the examination shall must be available to the person examined."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
