TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-25-175 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE NUMBER OF BUSINESS SIGNS WHICH MAY BE DISPLAYED ON PANELS ON HIGHWAYS IN RURAL AREAS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 57-25-175. (A) The number of business signs which may be displayed on specific information panels on fully controlled access highways in rural areas is limited for gas, food, lodging, and camping businesses as follows:
(1) single exit interchanges: six each;
(2) double exit interchanges: three each for each exit.
(B) As used in this section:
(1) `Business' is an individual business which furnishes gas, food, lodging, or camping services to the motoring public.
(2) `Business sign' is a separately attached sign, rectangular in shape, mounted on a specific information panel to show the brand or trademark and name, or both, of a qualified motorist service available at or near the next interchange.
(3) `Specific information panel' is an official sign, rectangular in shape, located within the highway right-of-way and carrying the message `GAS', `FOOD', `LODGING', or `CAMPING' followed by the exit number and space below for one or more individual business signs to be mounted on the panel. At unnumbered interchanges the legend `NEXT' or `SECOND' and `RIGHT' or `LEFT' must be substituted for the exit number."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
