TO DEVOLVE THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY UPON THE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS OF THE COUNTY, TO ABOLISH THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, TO PROVIDE FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE MILLAGE CONSTITUTING THE MINIMUM FOUNDATION FUNDING FOR THE SCHOOLS, REQUIRE THE SALE OF THE ASSETS OF THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, AND PROVIDE FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE SALE PROCEEDS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. All powers and duties of the County Board of Education of Spartanburg County are devolved upon the boards of trustees of the local school districts of Spartanburg County, and the County Board of Education of Spartanburg County is abolished.
The millage constituting the minimum foundation funding and financial support for the public schools of Spartanburg County must be administered annually by the Spartanburg County Treasurer's Office and must be divided equally, on an annual basis, among the local school districts of the county, with each of the seven school districts receiving one-seventh of the revenue generated each year from such millage.
All assets of the County Board of Education of Spartanburg County must be sold and the proceeds from such sale must be equally divided among the seven school districts of the county.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
