A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND FORT MILL PATROLMAN JOE BUTTS FOR HIS HEROIC ACTIONS IN TRYING TO PREVENT A ROBBERY AND TO WISH HIM SPEEDY RECOVERY FROM THE GUNSHOT WOUND HE RECEIVED WHILE TRYING TO PREVENT THE ROBBERY.

Whereas, the General Assembly has learned that Fort Mill Patrolman Joe Butts was shot and severely injured while trying to prevent a robbery in the Town of Fort Mill on April 15, 1992; and

Whereas, Patrolman Butts and his partner, on a routine patrol, tried valiantly to stop a robbery in progress; and

Whereas, Joe Butts, the first police officer in Fort Mill to be shot in the line of duty, had never fired his gun but emptied five shots toward the fleeing van as it sped off; and

Whereas, Officer Butts expects to spend six to eight weeks in the hospital and is experiencing severe pain because of the gunshot wound; and

Whereas, the Town of Fort Mill is doing their part to express their thanks for this heroic action; and

Whereas, the General Assembly wishes a speedy recovery to Officer Butts and hopes that he can return to service in the very near future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend Fort Mill Patrolman Joe Butts for his heroic actions in trying to prevent a robbery and to wish a speedy recovery from the gunshot wound he received while trying to prevent the robbery.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Patrolman Joe Butts.
