A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS BEST WISHES TO BETTY M. SMITH, ANDERSON COUNTY TREASURER, UPON HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Betty M. Smith has worked in the Anderson County Treasurer's office for forty-four years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Smith ran as a Democrat for the treasurer's office and was first elected in 1972; and

Whereas, she is the first woman to hold elective office in a county governing position; and

Whereas, even though Mrs. Smith faced strong opposition upon re-election, the voters cast more ballots for her than for any other candidate in any other race; and

Whereas, after nineteen years of dedicated service as county treasurer and with her fifth term in office coming to an end, Mrs. Smith will retire to spend more time with her husband. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express their best wishes to Betty M. Smith, Anderson County Treasurer, upon her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Smith.
