A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MRS. MARY D. CELAYA FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS THE CLERK/TREASURER OF THE TOWN OF PELION FOR ALMOST TEN YEARS UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM THIS POSITION.

Whereas, the members of the Senate with regret have learned that Mrs. Mary D. Celaya will be retiring as Clerk/Treasurer of the Town of Pelion, a position she assumed in August, 1981; and

Whereas, Mrs. Celaya graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in accounting and is a stalwart for the Town of Pelion not only serving it in the capacity of a public official but serving it in countless other ways; and

Whereas, she is treasurer of the senior citizens' group, "Time Stoppers", is a loyal and devoted member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, served as Grand Marshal of the 1990 Pelion Christmas Parade, has been treasurer for the annual Peanut Party since its inception nine years ago, and was chosen Outstanding Water System Clerk in her district by the South Carolina Rural Water Association; and

Whereas, she has accomplished all of this although being legally deaf but this has in no way impaired her ability to give so much to her friends, family, and community; and

Whereas, Mary Celaya is blessed with two children and four grandchildren, and in retirement will nevertheless volunteer one day a week for the Town of Pelion; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this lovely lady for her distinguished service as the Clerk/Treasurer of Pelion upon the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby commend Mrs. Mary D. Celaya for her outstanding service as Clerk/Treasurer of the Town of Pelion for almost ten years upon her retirement from this position.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary D. Celaya.
