A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MR. NATHAN M. WOLFE WHO RECENTLY WAS HONORED UPON BEING NAMED THE NORTH AUGUSTA CITIZEN OF THE YEAR FOR 1990.

Whereas, Mr. Nathan M. Wolfe recently was named the North Augusta Citizen of the Year for 1990; and

Whereas, according to the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, many people are willing to serve and work for their community, but it is a rare combination to find someone like Mr. Wolfe, a hard worker, also willing to accept the responsibility of leadership. Regardless of the activity or organization in which Mr. Wolfe is involved, he assumes top responsibility; and

Whereas, Mr. Wolfe's leadership qualities associated with his efforts have benefitted not only the North Augusta community but also our State and nation; and

Whereas, after receiving his education in South Carolina, Mr. Wolfe volunteered to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He honorably served from 1948 to 1952; and

Whereas, after being discharged from the corps, he began work with the E. I. duPont Company at Savannah River Plant in 1952; and

Whereas, in the early 1960's Mr. Wolfe was active in school affairs while his son and daughter were enrolled in local schools. He was president of the Summerfield Parent-Teacher Association and the Parent-Teacher Association Advisory Council of North Augusta. He was also a member of the North Augusta School Advisory Council during the building of North Augusta High School in 1969; and

Whereas, for over twenty-five years duty with the American Red Cross has been a part of Mr. Wolfe's life. As a board of directors member for the Aiken County chapter of the Red Cross from the middle 1960's to the present, he has been chairman of almost every committee. In 1982 he served as chairman of the board of directors, the highest position in the county. His work coordinated with the Red Cross blood collection drives at Savannah River Plant in the years before his retirement; and

Whereas, as a war-time veteran, Mr. Wolfe joined the North Augusta Jesse C. Lynch #71 of the American Legion in 1960. Within a few years, he was selected to serve as post commander. He rose through the ranks by becoming District 4 Commander over eleven posts in the area and zone commander where he has the leader of four districts and forty-three posts; and

Whereas, in 1973 Mr. Wolfe's work in South Carolina climaxed when he was chosen department commander for South Carolina. This service was followed by a term as national vice-commander for the American Legion; and

Whereas, he is known nationally, statewide, and locally as "Mr. Legionnaire". His fellow Post 71 comrades selected him as "Legionnaire of the Year" in 1967, 1973, and 1980; and

Whereas, his efforts always have reflected favorably on North Augusta, recognized throughout the State because of Mr. Wolfe's work; and

Whereas, at present Mr. Wolfe continues to demonstrate his leadership ability. His latest statewide effort is to lead South Carolina in passing an amendment to prevent desecration of our American flag; and

Whereas, Mr. Wolfe has lived in North Augusta for the past thirty-nine years along with his wife. They have two children and four grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate recognize Mr. Nathan M. Wolfe who recently was honored upon being named the North Augusta Citizen of the Year for 1990.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Wolfe.
