TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 50-11-570 SO AS TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO CONDUCT A COMPETITION FOR THE TAKING OR DISPLAY OF BIG GAME, TO PROVIDE AN EXEMPTION, AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 50-11-570. (A) It is unlawful for a person to advertise, conduct or offer to conduct, or otherwise promote or participate in a contest, competition, or activity which involves or requires the payment of a registration, entry, or hunting fee and where two or more persons compete for recognition or a prize when the object of the contest, competition, or activity involves the taking or the display for comparison of a big game animal or any part of a big game animal. Certificates issued by organizations solely for the registration and recording of animal size and characteristics of animals legally taken are not prohibited.
(B) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be punished by a fine of not more than two hundred dollars or imprisonment for not more than thirty days.
(C) For purpose of this title `big game animal' means deer, bear, or turkey."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
