TO AMEND SECTION 7-7-730, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ALTERATION OF VOTING PRECINCTS AND THE ALPHABETICAL DIVISION OF THE PRECINCT LIST, SO AS TO PROVIDE WHERE A PRECINCT HAS MORE THAN SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY REGISTERED ELECTORS RATHER THAN FIFTEEN HUNDRED ELECTORS THE PRECINCT LIST MUST BE DIVIDED ALPHABETICALLY SO THAT NO LIST CONTAINS MORE THAN SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY NAMES, AND TO PROVIDE THAT NOTHING IN THIS SECTION PREVENTS THE ALTERATION OF PRECINCTS WHEN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OR LOCAL REGISTRATION BOARD CONSIDERS THE ALTERATION ADVISABLE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 7-7-730 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 7-7-730. When a precinct has more than one thousand five hundred seven hundred fifty registered electors and an additional polling place is provided within the precinct and no polling place in such precinct is assigned more than one thousand five hundred electors the provisions of Section 7-7-710 shall be deemed to be complied with. Also, the provisions of such section shall be deemed to be complied with if, the precinct list is must be divided alphabetically divided so that no list contains more than one thousand five hundred seven hundred fifty electors and separate managers and facilities are provided within the polling place for each list of electors. Local registration boards dividing precincts alphabetically shall notify the State Election Commission of such this division so that separate alphabetically arranged poll lists may be printed by the State Election Commission commission. Upon completion of the above, the provisions of Section 7-7-710 are considered to be complied with regardless of the number of electors in the precinct. Nothing in this section prevents the alteration of precincts pursuant to Section 7-7-710 where the General Assembly or local registration boards consider this alteration advisable."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
