The House assembled at 10:00 A.M.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark as follows:
O God, the Light of those who put their trust in You, we draw near to You in the quiet moments of prayer seeking wisdom and strength for the tasks of this day. In our restlessness, may we know the peace of Your presence; in our fears, the faithfulness of Your nearness; in our uncertainties, the assurance of Your undergirding help. Bless those with whom we are bound by ties of family, friendship, and the fellowship of working together. Give us such a measure of vision and such an abundance of concern for others as to be a blessing to Your children everywhere.
Make clear to us Your way, and give us the determined wills to follow it. Amen.
