TO CONGRATULATE MR. STEVE MCELMURRAY UPON BEING NAMED THE 1993 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR BY THE GREATER NORTH AUGUSTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Whereas, Mr. Steve McElmurray received the 1993 Citizen of the Year Award by the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, he became the first Citizen of the Year also to be serving as the Chairman of the Board for the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, owner of Parks Pharmacy in North Augusta, Mr. McElmurray was cited for his extensive work with the Aiken County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission. He participated in implementing DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, in area schools and served as President of the Coalition to Assist Abused Persons and the American Cancer Society, North Augusta Unit; and
Whereas, he was president and twice Sertoman of the Year of the North Augusta Sertoma Club and is President of the Aiken area Pharmaceutical Association; and
Whereas, Mr. McElmurray helped to institute the associate degree program in Pharmacy at Aiken Technical College where he has taught; and
Whereas, he is President of the Cotillion Club of North Augusta, was Aiken County's First Small Business Person of the Year in 1991, speaks frequently on drugs at elementary schools, and helps to finance youth teams; and
Whereas, last year's winner, Nate Wolfe described Mr. McElmurray as a man who has "quietly served our community" and who has "donated his time and money as if it came to him as easily as he gave it"; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are proud to recognize Mr. Steve McElmurray and to note his many contributions to his community and its citizens. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate congratulate Mr. Steve McElmurray upon being named the 1993 Citizen of the Year by the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. McElmurray.
