A BILL

TO AMEND CHAPTER 5 OF TITLE 7, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 7-5-158 SO AS TO REQUIRE ALL PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, AND UNIVERSITIES TO MAKE VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS AVAILABLE TO THE STUDENTS, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE RETURN OF THE FORMS TO A COUNTY BOARD OF REGISTRATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 5, Title 7 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 7-5-158. The school board or board of trustees of all public high schools, colleges, and universities must provide all students above the age of eighteen a voter registration form, returnable by mail to the county board of registration or the school board in accordance with the mail-in procedure described in Section 7-5-155. By the tenth day of each month, each school board must send a copy of all voter registration information collected the preceding month to the county board of registration of the county in which each student resides."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
