A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO DR. KARL S. WRIGHT, DEAN OF SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND PAST CHAIRMAN OF THE FRANK L. RODDEY SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER (SBDC) CONSORTIUM, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS DEPARTURE FROM SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY.

Whereas, the members of the Senate note with mixed feelings the decision of Dr. Karl S. Wright, to depart from his position as Dean of South Carolina State University School of Business; and

Whereas, these mixed feelings arise because Dr. Wright's departure will be a great loss to South Carolina State University and the citizens of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Dr. Wright managed the faculty, administrative, fiscal, and physical resources of the largest academic unit at the University and provided leadership in the areas of fundraising, public relations, faculty retirement, faculty development, faculty evaluation, and curricula review; and

Whereas, he lead the University in its ongoing preparation for national accreditation, developed linkages with major universities (such as the Harvard Business School), created a Professional Development Program for students, developed a business and agribusiness curricula at the University, and established Centers for Economic Education and Technology Transfer; and

Whereas, Dr. Wright is an outstanding and revered member of several boards including the Southeast Consortium for International Development (SECID), SECID's Finance and Administration Committee, Small Business Development Consortium (SBDC) of South Carolina, National Association for Equal Opportunity (NAFEO), South Carolina Council for Economic Education, South Carolina Federal Savings and Loan, and First Union National Bank of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Dr. Wright has broad international experiences including being the co-author of the US Agency for International Development research project in the Philippines and Indonesia. He also visited Panama and Indonesia to explore program opportunities for SECID; and

Whereas, Dr. Wright has unselfishly donated his vast talents and services to the local community as a member of the Board of Advocates of the Harvest Hope Food Bank, as President of the Holy Trinity Catholic School Parent-Teachers Association, as Coach of the Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Soccer Youth Program, and as a college liaison for the United Way Campaign; and

Whereas, his record of service to the University and the State of South Carolina has set a high standard for his successor and to all who labor in educating the people of our nation; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations that they may note this milestone in the life of so distinguished a South Carolinian so that they might wish for him a happy and fulfilling departure. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

The members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. Wright on the occasion of his departure from South Carolina State University and express their good wishes.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Wright.
