TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 2-1-210 SO AS TO LIMIT THE TERMS OF MEMBERS OF STATE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR OR ELECTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND PROVIDE FOR EXCEPTIONS TO AND THE OPERATION OF THE PROVISIONS.
Amend Title To Conform
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 2-1-210. No person may be appointed by the Governor or elected by the General Assembly to a state board or commission who has served two successive full terms, or twelve successive years, whichever is longer. The limitation does not prevent a person from being elected or appointed to the same body after an absence of two years. This section does not apply to life members of the Clemson University Board of Trustees. Persons currently serving on these boards or commissions whose tenure exceeds the two-term or twelve-year limitation are permitted to complete their current term."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 1993.
