TO COMMEND THOMAS E. KERNS, SUPERINTENDENT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOLS, UPON BEING RANKED AMONG THE TOP ONE HUNDRED SCHOOL EXECUTIVES IN NORTH AMERICA.
Whereas, every three years Executive Educator magazine publishes a list of the "best and brightest school executives"; and
Whereas, the school executives were chosen by a panel of educators who selected one hundred from an original pool of six hundred nominees submitted by readers of Executive Educator and the American School Board Journal, which is aimed at superintendents, principals, and assistant principals; and
Whereas, the nominees are judged on forging relationships with the community, creating innovations in educational programs, and improving the citizenship of students; and
Whereas, the magazine cited a partnership program in Greenville County that matches businesses with schools to provide mentors and tutors for students; and
Whereas, Mr. Kerns has been a Greenville County educator for thirty-seven years; and
Whereas, he was one of eight superintendents nationally recognized in 1991 with a Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts Administrator Award; and
Whereas, Mr. Kerns was named on the "1993 Executive Educator 100" list; and
Whereas, Mr. Kerns felt honored to be selected by the group of educators and thought Greenville County was "doing some things that deserved recognition". Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend Thomas E. Kerns, Superintendent of Greenville County Schools, upon being ranked among the top one hundred school executives in North America.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Kerns.
