TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS OF MRS. ANN HOLDEN LUCAS OF BEAUFORT WHO DIED FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, 1993.
Whereas, Mrs. Ann Holden Lucas of Beaufort died Friday, January 29, 1993; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lucas has long been admired as a tireless worker in her community and dedicated official of the Republican party; and
Whereas, "Ann was a political adviser to all local Republican elected officials and she let us know in a hurry if we did something wrong," said Beaufort County Councilman Joel Martin. "We all loved her and we'll miss her tremendously"; and
Whereas, Brays Island developer Sumner Pingree comments, "She was very dedicated to what she believed in and she had tremendous energy not only in her political efforts but in other community works"; and
Whereas, she was born in Snowhill, North Carolina, and was the daughter of Ida Cameron Holden Workman and Paul Holden; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lucas worked as an Administrative Assistant and Director of the Beaufort Office of Congressman Arthur Ravenel for six years and was appointed by Governor Carroll Campbell to be a member of the Commission on Human Affairs. She was a former president of the South Carolina and Beaufort Republican Women, former vice-president of the Beaufort County Republican Party, a member of the National Federation of Republican Women and Beaufort Area Republican Club, delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1984, 1988, and 1992, and committee member to the South Carolina Republican Party from Beaufort County; and
Whereas, surviving in addition to her husband, Beaufort County Sheriff David Jennings Lucas, are two sons, David J. Lucas III of Beaufort and Arthur S. Lucas II, currently stationed with the United States Army in Georgia, her mother, and five grandchildren. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends and admirers of Mrs. Ann Holden Lucas of Beaufort who died Friday, January 29, 1933.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mrs. Lucas.
