TO RECOGNIZE BETTY PEACE STALL AND HER FAMILY FOR THEIR CONTINUING EFFORTS TO BRING INTO EXISTENCE THE PEACE CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO THANK HER FOR HER SERVICE AND DEDICATION TO THE GREENVILLE COMMUNITY AND TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the recently established Peace Center for the Performing Arts has brought national attention to Greenville and the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the Peace Center through four separate performing areas has served to attract large audiences to its many performances and has been an attraction to new industry and commerce to the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the center through a unique outreach program in cooperation with the public schools sponsors performances annually for thousands of school children traveling to the center from several counties in the upstate as part of their study programs; and
Whereas, the center is an outstanding example of public and private cooperation in that through the combined efforts of private citizens, the city and county of Greenville, and the State of South Carolina, the facility was brought into existence by combined public and private contributions of forty-five million dollars; and
Whereas, this major facility was guided through its construction and the first years of its operation by Betty Peace Stall who served as president of the Peace Center from 1985 through 1991; and
Whereas, the Greenville community and the State of South Carolina are deeply indebted to this remarkable woman for her unselfish service and dedication. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby extend to Betty Peace Stall and her family their deepest gratitude and appreciation of all South Carolinians for her untiring efforts in bringing into existence and in guiding through its first years The Peace Center for the Performing Arts.
