TO AMEND SECTION 20-7-510, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO REPORTING OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT, SO AS TO REQUIRE THAT ALL REPORTS OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT RECEIVED BY TELEPHONE ARE RECORDED AND THAT THE IDENTITY OF THE CALLER IS CONFIDENTIAL AND MUST BE PROTECTED FROM DISCLOSURE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 20-7-510 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding at the end:
"(D) All reports of abuse or neglect received by telephone must be recorded. The identity of the person reporting is confidential and must not be disclosed by law enforcement except as provided for in this section and must not be disclosed by the Department of Social Services except as provided for in Section 20-7-690."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
