A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING PROFOUND SORROW AT THE DEATH OF MERLE P. PRINCE OF UNION COUNTY, AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Merle P. Prince of the Buffalo community, Union County, died suddenly several days ago as the result of a heart attack; and

Whereas, Mrs. Prince, a native North Carolinian but a long-time resident of Union County, was a devoted wife and mother; and

Whereas, she was an outstanding leader of the Union County Democratic Party, which she served as secretary from 1980 to 1988 and as chairperson from 1990 until her death; and

Whereas, she possessed a unique leadership style, was a consensus-builder, and fought hard for women's rights and for equality for all people; and

Whereas, she was a dynamic individual who possessed unbounded energy, and she was deeply committed to her family and her church; and

Whereas, her death has stunned and deeply saddened all of the people who knew her, and she will be deeply missed and mourned for many, many years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express profound sorrow at the death of Merle P. Prince of Union County and extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Prince's family.
