A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 12-36-2120, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO SALES AND USE TAX EXEMPTIONS, SO AS TO REVISE THE EXEMPTION FOR MEDICINE AND PROSTHETIC DEVICES AND INCLUDE AS AN EXEMPTION A MEDICAL DEVICE OR SUBSTANCE IMPLANTED INTO A HUMAN BODY BY A PHYSICIAN.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 12-36-2120(28) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"(28) medicine and prosthetic devices available under or sold by prescription or administered under the supervision of a physician; a medical device or substance implanted into a human body by a physician; hypodermic needles, insulin, alcohol swabs, and blood sugar testing strips sold to diabetics under the authorization and direction of a physician; and dental prosthetic devices;"

SECTION 2. This act takes effect on the first day of the second month following approval by the Governor.
