A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 42-1-455 SO AS TO REQUIRE A BUILDING INSPECTOR TO OBTAIN VERIFICATION OF LIABLE PARTIES FOR WORKERS' COMPENSATION COVERAGE OF EMPLOYEES ON CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION SITES AND THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF THE FINANCIAL ASSURANCE FOR THIS LIABILITY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 42-1-455. A building inspector of sites being constructed or renovated for which a building permit is required shall obtain written verification from the owner or the contractor responsible for the site as to who is liable to pay any workers employed on the site any compensation under this title and the nature and extent of the financial assurance for this liability."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
