To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 408), to request the Department of Highways and Public Transportation to delay its decision on the closing of the Drivers' License Office in the city of Pageland in Chesterfield County, etc., respectfully
That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO DELAY ITS DECISION ON THE CLOSING OF THE DRIVERS' LICENSE OFFICE IN THE CITY OF PAGELAND IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY AND TO MEET WITH THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY DELEGATION AND THE LOCAL MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS TO SEEK AN ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION.
Whereas, the Department intends to close the Pageland Drivers' License office on February 23, 1993 and;
Whereas, the citizens of Pageland and the surrounding communities have come to rely on this vital service and;
Whereas, the officials of the city of Pageland and the Chesterfield county delegation realize that the current arrangement for providing these services is not cost-effective to the Department and;
Whereas, the Chesterfield county delegation and the city of Pageland would like to consult with the Department to explore the possibility of the city providing facilities in order to reduce the Department's cost and thereby maintaining this vial service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That, the Department of Highways and Public Transportation is requested to delay its decision on the closing of the drivers' license office in the city of Pageland in Chesterfield county and is further requested to meet with the Chesterfield county delegation and the local municipal officials to seek an alternative solution.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Executive Director of the Department of Highways and Public Transportation and to the City Council of Pageland.
