Whereas, the Anderson Independent-Mail has won the Charles E. Scripps Award, a national newspaper industry award for service in support of literacy; and
Whereas, this award is one of several national newspaper awards given by the Scripps Howard Foundation of Cincinnati; and
Whereas, the Independent-Mail of Anderson won the award for its various programs in support of literacy, including an annual Halloween Literacy Carnival, which the newspaper co-sponsors, and a Reader Roundup program that provides free books for each Anderson County public school fifth grader, which is coordinated by the newspaper and the Literacy Association of Anderson County; and
Whereas, the efforts of the Independent-Mail in behalf of literacy are highly commendable and truly worthwhile, and the newspaper's selection for the Charles E. Scripps Award is greatly deserved. Now, therefore,
