TO RECOGNIZE MRS. MARJORIE C. STONEBROOK OF MYRTLE BEACH UPON RECEIVING THE 1993 OUTSTANDING OLDER SOUTH CAROLINIAN AWARD PRESENTED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA COMMISSION ON AGING.
Whereas, Mrs. Marjorie C. Stonebrook of Myrtle Beach was selected by the South Carolina Commission on Aging to receive the 1993 Outstanding Older South Carolinian Award; and
Whereas, this award is presented by the South Carolina Commission on Aging to Mrs. Stonebrook for outstanding and distinguished service to her community and the State for the past twenty-three years; and
Whereas, Mrs. Stonebrook, seventy-nine, has been very active in the Myrtle Beach and Horry County area since arriving from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1970. She has given unselfishly of her time and considerable talents in a wide range of civic and public interests, including extensive work with the American Heart Association; and
Whereas, her accomplishments include helping organize and maintain the Horry County Heart Unit and producing the Heart Telethon, which has helped raise more funds for heart services in Horry County than any other county in the State; and
Whereas, Mrs. Stonebrook was elected to the Myrtle Beach City Council in 1978 and served three consecutive terms, retiring after twelve years of service. She was named the 1983 Grand Strand Citizen of the Year; and
Whereas, she also established a Sister Cities International Program in Myrtle Beach which has led to worldwide economic and social relationships benefiting the citizens of Myrtle Beach and Horry County; and
Whereas, active with the Horry County Council on Aging, Mrs. Stonebrook served on the Grand Strand Senior Center Steering Committee and was instrumental in securing the donation of land and funding for the new center. She is currently chairman of the center's board of directors; and
Whereas, for these and countless other contributions and achievements, Mrs. Stonebrook exemplifies the best traits of those who give of themselves as volunteers. She is responsible, energetic, and dependable with ideas to contribute. Indeed, she is still very much a leader and the "heart" of so many community and state efforts. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize Mrs. Marjorie C. Stonebrook of Myrtle Beach upon receiving the 1993 Outstanding Older South Carolinian Award presented by the South Carolina Commission on Aging.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Marjorie C. Stonebrook.
