A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 24-21-710 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE PAROLE REVIEW PERIODS FOR PRISONERS CONVICTED OF VIOLENT OR NONVIOLENT CRIMES WHO HAVE BEEN DENIED PAROLE APPLY WHETHER OR NOT THE APPLICABLE REVIEW PERIOD WAS MORE FREQUENT AT THE TIME THE PRISONER WAS CONVICTED OF OR PLED TO THE OFFENSE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 24-21-710. The parole review periods provided for in this article for prisoners convicted of violent or nonviolent crimes who have been denied parole apply whether or not the applicable review period was more frequent at the time the prisoner was convicted of or pled to the offense."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
