TO RECOGNIZE WILLIAM "BILL" CHAVIS OF GADSDEN FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS DURING HIS FORTY-ONE YEARS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICE.
Whereas, Mr. William "Bill" Chavis of Gadsden presently serves as Executive Director of the Palmetto State Law Enforcement Association which consists of sixteen chapters around the State; and
Whereas, Mr. Chavis' education includes an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Palmer College; two years of law at LaSalle University; United States Army Military Police School; I.A.S., Miami-Adjuster's Course; South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and Arson School; and workshops in Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina and South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy; and
Whereas, Mr. Chavis retired from the United States Army after twenty-two years of service and also from the University of South Carolina Police Department. During his service with the United States Army he received two Bronze Stars, one for heroism in Vietnam, and one with V device; a Good Conduct Metal with seven loops; an Occupational Medal for Japan and Germany; a Korean Medal with five Bronze Service Stars; a National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; a United States Nations Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; a Vietnam Service Medal; a Vietnam Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars; and a Vietnam Presidential Medal with Palm; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to note his achievements and to thank him for all he has done and continues to do for his community and State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize William "Bill" Chavis of Gadsden for his outstanding achievements during his forty-one years of law enforcement service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Chavis.
