TO AMEND SECTION 59-26-30, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO TEACHER EXAMINATIONS AND EVALUATION INSTRUMENTS AND USE OF THE NATIONAL TEACHER EXAMINATION FOR CERTIFICATION PURPOSES, SO AS TO PROVIDE A FOUR-YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD WITH PERIODIC AND A FINAL EVALUATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD OF CERTIFICATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The first paragraph of Section 59-26-30(i) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"From the effective date of this chapter, For certification purposes use a four-year probationary period during which the instrument developed in subitem (b)(3) must be used to periodically observe and evaluate the teacher and at the end of which a final evaluation must be conducted, or in accordance with this item use the specific teaching area examinations of the National Teacher Examinations for certification purposes. The qualifying scores on the area examinations shall be set at the same level at which they are now set. The qualifying scores may be adjusted if new legal requirements or validity studies indicate such adjustments are necessary."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 1994.
