TO AMEND ACT 230 OF 1993, RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SUMTER COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT FOR 1994, THE COMMISSION SHALL ELECT A CHAIRMAN WITHIN THIRTY DAYS OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT, AND PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF A CHAIRMAN IN EACH YEAR AFTER THAT IN WHICH PRIMARIES ARE CONDUCTED.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 1(D) of Act 230 of 1993, is amended to read:
"(D) The members of the commission, the administrator, who must be the chairman of the commission, and staff shall receive compensation as may be appropriated by the county council. In each year in which primaries are conducted, the commission must elect a chairman no later than six months but no earlier than seven months before the primary."
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding the amendment to Section 1(D) of Act 230 of 1993, contained in Section 1 of this act, for 1994 only, the Sumter County Registration and Elections Commission shall elect a chairman within thirty days after the effective date of this act.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
