TO AMEND SECTION 14-1-200, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE SALARIES OF JUSTICES, JUDGES, AND SOLICITORS, SO AS TO REVISE THE SALARY STRUCTURE FOR JUDGES OF THE COURT OF APPEALS, CIRCUIT COURT, FAMILY COURT, AND SOLICITORS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 14-1-200 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 14-1-200. The General Assembly shall establish the salary of the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court in the annual general appropriations act and shall fix the salaries for the court of appeals, circuit court, family court, and solicitors according to the following schedule:
(1) The Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals shall receive a salary in an amount not to exceed of ninety-nine percent of the salary fixed for Associate Justices of the Supreme Court;
(2) Judges of the court of appeals shall receive a salary of ninety-seven and one-half percent of the salary fixed for Associate Justices of the Supreme Court;
(2) (3) Judges of the court of appeals and circuit court judges shall receive a salary in an amount not to exceed of ninety-five percent of the salary fixed for Associate Justices of the Supreme Court;
(3) (4) Judges of the family court and circuit solicitors shall receive a salary in an amount not to exceed ninety of ninety-two and one-half percent of the salary fixed for Judges of the Court of Appeals and Circuit Court Associate Justices of the Supreme Court."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 1994, except that percentage increases provided for in subsections (2) and (4) of Section 14-1-200, as amended by this act, shall be implemented in phases with fifty percent of the increase becoming effective on January 1, 1995, and the remaining fifty percent of the increase becoming effective on January 1, 1996.
