A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL BANDS OF ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND BAND DIRECTOR BENNY FERGUSON FOR THE MANY AWARDS AND HONORS BESTOWED UPON THE MARCHING AND CONCERT BANDS DURING THE 1993-94 SCHOOL YEAR.

Whereas, the Northwestern High School Bands of Rock Hill, South Carolina, have completed another very successful year receiving many honors and awards performing for local, regional, state, and national audiences and competitions; and

Whereas, for the third consecutive year, the South Carolina Band Directors Association has chosen the Northwestern High School Bands to receive the Outstanding Peformance Award, given to bands that have rated superior in the major competitive state events; and

Whereas, during the 1993-94 school year, the Northwestern High School marching band was given a superior rating at the Burger King Classic Marching Contest, at the AAAAA State Marching Championships and at the Trojan Classic Contest where the band also received second place overall; and

Whereas, the Northwestern High School Concert Bands were recognized at the State Concert Band Festival for their outstanding performances with the concert band receiving a superior rating and the symphonic band and ninth grade band both receiving an excellent rating; and

Whereas, twenty-three students from the bands were chosen for all-region and all-state region bands and eighty students scored superior and excellent ratings at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival; and

Whereas, among the year's highlights was the combined concert bands performing in Washington, D.C., at the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Capitol Building; and

Whereas, the band members and Dr. Benny P. Ferguson, Band Director, are hard-working and diligent in their pursuits and have been excellent ambassadors for Northwestern High School, Rock Hill, York County, and South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
