TO CONGRATULATE THE DORCHESTER ACADEMY RAIDERS ON WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION'S CLASS AAA GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were delighted to learn that Dorchester Academy Raiders Girls Basketball Team has captured the South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association's Class AAA State Championship; and
Whereas, the Raiders Girls Basketball Team finished the regular season with a perfect 23-0 record; and
Whereas, this outstanding team beat Pinewood Prep in the Regional Tournament; and
Whereas, with a tenacious defense and an awesome offense they defeated Thomas Heyward and then beat Orangeburg Prep for the State Semi-Finals; and
Whereas, the Lady Raiders won the 1994 State Championship defeating Robert E. Lee and ending the season with a 27-0 record; and
Whereas, the Dorchester Academy Lady Raiders Team for 1993-1994 included Amy George, Amy Hill, Jaime Sanders, Ashley Hartzog, Erin Dixon, Melissa Durr, Jana Norris, April O'Quinn, Jill Shuler, and Julie Anderson; and
Whereas, the team members' dedication, talent, persistence, and unity along with the excellent coaching of Head Coach Buddy Hartzog and Assistant Coach Frances Furtick, and with the support of their loyal Bookkeeper Alda Ayers, clearly paid significant dividends for the Lady Raiders by their winning this prestigious championship. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Dorchester Academy Raiders Girls Basketball Team of St. George on winning the 1994 South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association's Class AAA Girls Basketball State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Lady Raiders Basketball Team of Dorchester Academy Head Coach Buddy Hartzog and to Carolyn Baker, Principal of Dorchester Academy.
