A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO DR. SALLIE CARTER UPON RECEIVING THE SUSAN B. McWHORTER OUTSTANDING WOMAN PROFESSIONAL AWARD FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN PROFESSIONALS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are delighted to learn that Dr. Sallie Carter of Anderson, South Carolina, recently received the Susan B. McWhorter Outstanding Woman Professional Award from the Association of Women Professionals; and

Whereas, Dr. Carter is Staff Pediatrician and Director of Nurseries at Anderson Area Medical Center; and

Whereas, she is owner of Summit Health Care for Children and Adolescents, which she established in 1990, to provide pediatric health care for children from underprivileged homes and only children from Medicaid families or those unable to pay for medical care are treated at Summit; and

Whereas, Dr. Carter is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and holds a Master's Degree in Divinity from Yale Divinity School; and

Whereas, in 1978, after a mission trip to Nigeria, Dr. Carter felt a strong call to enter the medical profession; and

Whereas, she completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and completed her residency at Yale New Haven Hospital; and

Whereas, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the South Carolina Medical Association; and

Whereas, Dr. Carter teaches the Career Singles Class at First Baptist Church of Anderson and is the Mother of two daughters, Amanda, 4, and Addie, 11 months; and

Whereas, Dr. Sallie Carter has been selected as the eighth recipient of this annual award, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to accord her the special recognition which she has so greatly merited. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Dr. Sallie Carter of Anderson County on being chosen by the Association of Women Professionals as the Susan B. McWhorter Outstanding Woman Professional, an award given annually in memory of the late Susan B. McWhorter.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Sallie Carter.
