COMMENDING DIRECTOR GENERAL STANLEY KAO OF TAIPEI, TAIWAN FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION BETWEEN AMERICANS AND THE PEOPLE OF TAIWAN.
Whereas, during his tenure with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, Georgia, Director General Stanley Kao was instrumental in bridging the gap of cultural understanding between the cities of Atlanta and Taipei, Taiwan; and
Whereas, Mr. Kao received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from National Taiwan University and his Master of Arts degree in international law and diplomacy from National Chengchi University; and
Whereas, the City of Atlanta was proud to recognize the many accomplishments of Director General Kao to the people of Atlanta and to the people of Taipei and proclaimed February 20, 1996, as "Director General Stanley Kao Day" in Atlanta in a proclamation signed by the Mayor of Atlanta, the Honorable Bill Campbell; and
Whereas, Mr. Kao is leaving this country for a new post in Malaysia on March 16, 1996; and
Whereas, he has garnered the respect and admiration of all who have met him, and he has been a true friend of the State of South Carolina and of all the citizens of the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate wish to take this opportunity to accord special recognition to this outstanding individual and to wish him great success in Malaysia. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina commends Director General Stanley Kao of Taipei, Taiwan for his many contributions to cultural understanding and cooperation between Americans and the people of Taiwan.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Director General Stanley Kao.
